Mmm. I feel so warm and tasty after eating Franklin BBQ for lunch! My coworker went at 10:40am to be the fourth person in line for this delicious, and highly coveted, platter of meats. It’s rumored that they run out of meat by around 1pm each day. Photo from: Peter Tsai of Tasting Buds And, there’s espresso BBQ sauce. Yes!

Problem Insects of Texas →
Why must every insect in Texas fly and/or bite? Urghh. These guys are always chillin right outside my door, most likely a result of my living next to an enormous field of trees. Bring back the concrete jungle already!!

No more meat...
Okay. I had P. Terry’s for dinner after swimming in Barton Springs at dusk. Yes, it was lovely. Yes, the burgers and shakes and fries were delicious. Yes, the live music pouring over from the wine bar was fantastic and mellow. But seriously. I need to stop eating so much meat. I’m starting to feel bad for the cows. :(

Gruene & Texas' Oldest Dance Hall
Saturday I trekked out to Gruene, TX with my coworker Rae and her boyfriend Ryan. I had modest expectations for the evening: a scenic drive, real cowboys, maybe some small town Texas cuteness, and dancing at Texas’ oldest dance hall. The scenic drive took about twice as long as the straight shot I-35 route. We saw plenty of little ranches along the way with cows roaming around green...

Chicken Shit Bingo, or "That time I stared at a...
We arrived at Ginny’s Little Longhorn Saloon at about 3:15pm, drank some beers and watched other people eat free (!) hot dogs (we were all a little repulsed by the idea of eating processed meats in close proximity of chicken shit). We got front row seats and sat waiting and staring at an empty chicken cage atop a pool table. The band started at 4pm, playing soulful, moderately twangy...

Captured: New York City from Above →
As if I’m not already missing home, here come these gorgeous aerial shots of NYC. If you look real closely near the Williamsburg bridge you can almost see my tiny spec of leased “ownership” in this mass of steel and concrete. Reading the comments is even better than looking through the pictures. There’s hardly another city in the world whose inhabitants feel so deeply...

Some really good things about Austin that are...
When it rains in Austin the water isn’t dirty. It splashes on your legs and toes and there is no sooty residue. Amazing! I always get a seat on the bus. I didn’t like my cole slaw at dinner and the waiter offered to replace it with something else for free. (wild!) BBQ. Tex mex. This town doesn’t mess around. Things here that are “Mexican” are usually awesome....

Holy smokes!
Whoa! I went to my burlesque teachers’ show tonight. It was kind of crazy! These girls can definitely bring down the house.

OMG! It's like I'm in New York!
I’m going to a party tonight in East Austin, er, I mean, in the East Village. Wait. Is this the 1990s in NYC? Where’s Tompkins Square Park? Will there be reformed frat boys and loads of drunk B&Ters? Seriously, though. Headed to E. 11th for the Rare magazine party. Free food and drink… yeah!

Breakfast Tacos!
I’ve been in Austin almost four weeks, and with only 6 weeks left I’m starting to realize that I’ve been completely slacking on the breakfast taco crusade. If I move at a comfortable pace I can get in one or two weekend tacos and maybe one during the week. (Unless I wake up super early I’m pretty limited to the taco venues along the bus route between my apartment at work.) ...
